www.actnowsrilanka.org

The Centre for Women's Research (CENWOR), launced  ACT NOW, a website developed with support from Women Defining Peace (WDP), dedicated to information and resources on eliminating violence against women and girls in Sri Lanka. The Attorney General of Sri Lanka Hon. Ms. Eva Wanasundera was the Chief Guest and the Canadian High Commissioner, and HE Bruce Levy, was the Guest of Honour.

Even after years of advocacy, at least one in three of the world's women and girls face some type of violence in their lifetime. Here in Sri Lanka, an estimated 60 percent of women undergo domestic violence, and as much as 70 percent of women are harassed in public transport, while rape and incest are also prevalent. As technology and access expand exponentially, even advanced communication technologies are being used to perpetrate gender-based violence.  Through this new initiative CENWOR hopes to harness the power of communication technology and the Internet to create greater awareness of violence against women throughout all sectors of Sri Lankan society.
