The information activities of CENWOR include the maintenance of the information resource centre, information outreach, publication of the newsletter, moderating the electronic mailing lists, maintaining the web site and participating in national information activities especially relating to ICT in the wider community.

The resource centre maintains the library, provides reference and referral services and a variety of dissemination services. The library holds a specialist collection of information in print, electronic and audio visual formats. Print media includes books, reports –both published and unpublished, journals, reprints of articles appearing in foreign journals and material downloaded from the internet and audio visual material on gender and development.

The library subscribes to government publications, and to local periodicals and to daily and weekly newspapers. Clippings taken from these newspapers are maintained in separate files using keywords and this clippings service, including the weekly In the News is popular among readers. The library makes extensive use of web resources in providing information and has a guide to the materials downloaded and that can be accessed from the Internet. The library therefore has a unique collection of published and unpublished literature, a sizeable collection of audio visual material, CDROMs, and posters - mostly presented by foreign and local organizations.

It has several databases including a comprehensive data base on gender based violence developed under a project funded by the Women Defining Peace Resources for Combatting Violence Against Women

CENWOR library is a popular resource centre for those who seek information on gender related fields and its main users range from local and foreign university staff, post graduate and under graduate students, government officials, personnel of the security services to NGO workers, private sector managers and individuals. In addition the library responds to many queries through telephone and e-mail. The resource centre also provides information support to all the research activities of CENWOR.

  • Issue of In the News –a weekly compilation of newspaper reports of current news, which is disseminated via email and the CENWOR website.
